Pemberton and WV weekend: dust, G+T and the anti-riffle...
October 24, 2006 05:57

Sometimes the least organised rides are the best ones, 9:30am phone calls the morning after the night before, no plans, some season old bikes(that means one set of working gears between the lot of us) and plenty of sunshine.

Leaving the high security compound(whistler) at around tennish, the following conversation took place in race car number 70.

SK:Im sure I've forgotten something, something important..
SG: As long as you've got a bike and helmet, thats all that matters.
SK: I guess so, but I cant help feeling...

30seconds after arriving in pemberton..

SG: Shit, wheres my helmet!

Thats right I forgot the damn thing, so I jump back in the racecar and leave the others to it.

"These people are not cool."

An hour later im back, a couple of pounds lighter and complete with helmet. 15 mins later, which is 15mins longer that i could have spent on the shitter annie, seb and adam turn up. They've done 1 run and these clowns have decided to leave our truck at the top of cream puff.So muggins here gets to wait at the bottom for another 40mins while seb and co rally to the top in a honda civic and then drive back down with the truck, another 40mins quality crapping time missed.

Fortunatley they left me their bikes, so i got to do skids in the car park for 40mins much to the amusement of the woman with the brown giant trance.

Finally they return and we get to go back up, another quick lap of cream puff, a first for me and a fantastic trail, some intial pushing/pedalling but we're soon into top quality single track and rock rides, seb shouts at us for not being photogenic but we dont care, theres far far too much fun is being had. This trail is a definite must for anyone visiting pemberton, just watch out for trains...

Back to the bottom, a quick chat to some rednecks and annie meets us in the truck, yes thats right someone drove down this time hurrah!

Straight back up the hill for bob gnarly, apparently adam is above map reading and merely goes on his iffy sense of direction, much swearing and a fair bit of pushing back up the hill ensue.

Eventually we're at the trailhead.

"What would Duncan Riffle have to say about those trousers?"

Bobgnarly starts off sedately but soon steepens up, the riding surface is about 6inchs of dirt and gravel sitting on top of slick rock, skidding is bad, braking technique is essential. Adam quickly skids off the track and i nervously take the lead, adam had mentioned a ten foot drop to flat! but i soon find thats about as accurate as his directions, quickly dispatching with a nice rock roll i gain some confidence and leave adam and annie to my dust.

Coming out onto the fireroad with a big grin on my face i leave my bike and check out the lower section of the trail while adam and annie are still coming down. A proper drop to flat this time starts the trail , someone really needs to explain landings to the local trail builders.

hearing squeeling brakes i head up to catch up with annie and adam, the lower section is abit more off the brakes and we all enjoy it. we finnish up on the last section of mckenzie cruise i think, its awesome, like a dh track back home.

Seb soon arrives in the truck at the bottom, hes fuming about the fact no,one told him you have to depress the clutch on canadian cars to start them, frankly i couldn't give a damn that last run was too much fun.

Mime artist, frustrated clutch jockey and sock sniffer: Seb

Back up again we go for one last run, hawai 50 this time, log rides(yuck) mixxed with some nice single track and ending back up on that amazing section of mckenzie cruise again.

Its now getting dark so we pack up and head into pemberton for some fantastic food in the pony cafe,i ts cheap too, if your up in pemberton check this place out.

Pony cafe, nice

Back to whistler....

For the rest of the weekends adventures from garfinkels, to the pie shop, to secret whistler trails and back again. Check back soon!

P.s whistlerdiaries.com does not advocate the use of toilet bowl colour scheme MX outfits anywhere, neither do we advocate the dangerously high trouser levels demonstrated in this article

Nike 6.0 shoes

Buy these shoes, that way when you get off your bike you will not look a total c*nt walking about in a pair of racing disco shoes or some gay moonboot climbing shoes that didnt make the grade. I have Nikes with tartan on which means i can drink whisky neat and throw big poles around willy nilly.

Halloween Loonie Race
October 20, 2006 23:29

This photo aint exactly Halloween but if you saw what she did with the donkey later on then you would be scared. www.populationpaste.com

WORCA is hosting its second annual Halloween Loonie Race and party on Thursday, Oct 26th, with the best costumes taking the prizes.

The venue is still being confirmed but the course will most likely be Lost Lake...after dark. bring bike lights, headlamps - anything that will help you see the trail and make it to the finish line.

WORCA will provide drinks, but bring some food for the potluck party.

Half of your entry fee will go into WORCA's trail maintenance fund, and the other half will go into a pot for the top riders -- usually locals who are training for the nationals or even the World Cup, so they can use every cent they get.

You need to be a WORCA member to participate for insurance reasons, but every cent that doesn't go to the insurance companies is channeled back into protecting and maintaining Whistler's exceptional network of bike trails -- the sames ones you'll be riding in weekly Loonie races.

The races are open to everyone, young and old, and of all abilities.

Gnarly Dude! Twat

As im sure some of you have noticed, things are changing here at whistler diaries, we're working on NZDiaries.com and trying to give whistlerdiaries.com abit of an overhaul, so if the screen goes black or even pink don't worry things will settle down soon.
we're just trying to find ourselves

So Whats the whistlerdiaries.com team been doing lately?

Adam has revealed a bizzare and disturbing past(more to come on this soon!).
Seb has been plying fatgirls with pies all week, to what end no-one wants to know.
Ben meanwhile has been wandering around with a devilboard strapped to his feet, the trousers will be dropping soon im sure.
Myself I've been finding out exactly how many moguls cookies its possible to consume in a week.

So thats it kids, stay tuned and dont touch the white stuff.
